Fallout 4 pc game Review
Finished the game, has both male and female characters, completed every single side quest i could find, and now I’m feels like i can finally give a review.
A fair warning up ahead if you’re planning to brought this
This is NOT a fallout game, or at least not the normal one. Check conclusion at the end of the reviews for a quick insight.
I’m gonna compare Fallout 4 to the previous fallout series.
Pros:
– Greatly improved combat mechanics in nearly all aspect.
– Gameplay mechanics got a slight improvement.
– NPC Has more variations in the dialog in term of generic interactions.
– Improved decoration functionality.
– Better crafting, weapon mod system, and the first fallout that actually has a base building aspect without game mods.
– Balanced economy aspect.
Cons:
– RPG aspect took a severe blow to the guts.
– Dialog choices also suffer a pretty serious damage.
– Almost has no truly unique weapons. Almost all “unique” weapons is a normal weapons with a trait generated from a specific list.
– City design has been watered down. 1 major city and a couple of small settlement is all you’ll get if you count out claimable settlement and factions base.
Explanation (A.K.A Ramble)
Fallout 4 got a great improvement in term of gameplay mechanic, both combat and non combat side. The combat has a better mod for weapons and highly customisable power armor. Grenade has a quick use button, something that other fallout didn’t have without game mod. In the non combat side, furniture has a functional use. Bench and chair for a “wait” functions (seriously, who wants to waiting by standing like a statue?).
The loot system in Fallout 4 are much more better now. Every kind of junk has some use, just happen that some junks are highly needed and some aren’t.
The supposed to be “legendary” are normal weapons with extra functions attached to them. Some add a secondary damage, such as plasma trait. It gives your bullet a plasma like trails with added energy damage and sometimes melt your opponent corpse. The problems is, some completely different weapon might has a identical trait. A plasma 10mm pistols, plasma shotgun, plasma miniguns, you name it. There’s barely any truly unique weapons. In my 148 hours i can only recall 1 if you count out the dlc, that is Deliverer.
The economy and trading are much more balanced. Without a barter perk, you won’t be swimming in caps, unlike the previous fallout. At the end game, my main char has merely 50k caps, exclude some random “legendary” and ammo, since i got a habit to hoard them. I got almost 500k caps in less playtime than this char in the previous fallout than Fallout 4.
The RPG system took a serious impact. Both lore and choice making has been watered down, companions background are almost nonexistent. Dialog choices are composed of merely 4 options and most of the time, it’s all lead to the same outcome. Plotline violence conflict are unavoidable, that makes charisma based char moot.
With such severe drawbacks, some might wonder why i give a thumbs up review. The reasons are, I’m someone that enjoy both FPS and RPG on the equal ground. So if some game improve one aspect while sacrificing the others, as long as the improvement are equal or better than the sacrificed aspect, it’s ok in my book. I can understand why most of the fallout fans are disappointed in this game, they’re looking for a worthy RPG styled fallout, not an FPS one. I can no longer call Fallout 4 a successors of fallout, more like a spin off i say.
Conclusions:
Fallout 4 is a good RPG oriented FPS, unlike its predecessor which is FPS oriented RPG
If you want a “normal” RPG fallout experience, you won’t find it here. Try some fallout NV or fallout 3 instead.
If you’re looking for FPS with an RPG as a spice, or you’re like me, someone who can and enjoy both genre equally, feel free to test it. You might find this interesting if you looking from FPS perspective.
Tricks n’ interesting stuf (SPOILERS)
- When you take too long to get to the vault you’ll die from the nuclear blast
- The game can be modded with the Nexus Download Manager
- Not every weapon makes the same damage against different enemies (laser weapons not effektive against robots)
- When you wait to long while looking at the pip-boy, your character will hit it
- The clues in Earl Sterlings house are under his sofa
- The brotherhood’s helicopter can only fly to already discovered locations
